Relational competencies

Help the millions of children in orphanages across Europe.

Donations are most welcome!

EU OrphanageS

It is our project vision to strengthen the social resources, skills and competencies of children placed in orphanages. We will specify a "best practice" and use that as an example to spread change across EU's orphanages. We are going to give children in care the opportunity for a better future - a future where they can educate and support themselves, as well as contribute to our society.

We will do this by giving them the best conditions available to observe, participate in, and feel a sense of cohesion within a family. With 'family', we mean a type of mentor family who are responsible for the child's well-being during their visits, but have no educational or psychological responsibility for the child. Families and children will undergo the training known as SRAS, built on recognised coaching principles, guidance and ongoing supervision.

The children

Orphanage children need your help and they need it right NOW! They have no one to spend their weekends with, no one coming to their birthday, and no one who lovingly shows them care and cohesion. They experience the best the orphanage can offer, but there is no family there who teaches  them to interact within society's norms and rules. With the project EOCASE, we will strengthen children through appreciative interviews, chats, people's presence and family contacts to give them a higher self-esteem and growing self-confidence.

the missing competence

The relational competence is one of our most basic and important skills in life. In society, we heavily rely on our abilities to interact and make connections with other people. All research shows that if children lack this competence, their lives will be affected by this and they will have an adult sense of not belonging. Their general performance levels - with themselves, others and society - will be limited. This will cost money and resources to deal with, but it can be minimised by creating nourishing relationships early on.

the future on repeat

Lacking relational competencies can be the root cause of antisocial behaviours. When children have no opportunity to build positive relationships, it will have major consequences by the time they reach adulthood. There is no one to rescue them, and the lack of social skills will in most cases be passed on to the next generation. Children learn how to treat other people with respect by possessing a level of self-esteem to begin with. We can help by providing them with the necessary skills. The cost of this is small compared to its long-term positive results.

our Solution

The solution is based on a model that has been developed over time by professionals from the teaching, coaching and health community. The ability to relate to others can - with this model - be "taught, shown and learned" and then replicated for the millions of children placed in orphanages.

our Solution

The solution is based on a model that has been developed over time by professionals from the teaching, coaching and health community. The ability to relate to others can - with this model - be "taught, shown and learned" and then replicated for the millions of children placed in orphanages.

The SRAS (Strong Relations And Results) model delivers results on the basis of research, learning and education. The model involves teaching children the necessary skills to be strong, create a social network as well as strong relationships with families who are dedicated and ready to open up their homes and hearts for them.

This involves efforts from the children themselves, their biological families, and mentor families. The learning happens through:

* Coaching to address the children's self-esteem
* Giving the kids opportunities their orphanages don't normally offer
* Appreciative interviews and chats
* Personal presence and contact
* Work around family values
* Exposure to different people, leading to new relationships
* Collecting information to aid research about relational skills

About us

Ditte Reedtz

Founder

I've always been interested in people - how people live, look and build relationships with one another. Now I know why my interest has always been so strong. We have a duty to do what we are good at and to create something out of what's been given to us.

I, myself, have lived in orphanages and know what it's like. It's a 'home' for children without a family or a place to call home. Although in many ways, it's a rescue for children, it will never be the same as living with a family. I know.

I have 4 children and have worked on and put my heart and head into this project to make it absolutely perfect. I cannot change the whole world, but with our plan, the project can be spread out to all orphanage children in Europe with only few resources and the best of intentions.

My hope and desire for this project is that children in orphanages across Europe will get mentor families who WANT them 100%, so the kids will form lasting relationships and a network they would not otherwise have the opportunity to build.

Help me help others.

about

Some of our key competencies, such as relational skills and other social abilities, are acquired naturally. The ability to build and sustain these skills gives a child:

* A sense of equality amongst others, enabling a basic sense of belonging and feeling part of a valuable community in spite of an unusual family background.
* A feeling of responsibility towards themselves, other people and the maintenance of relationships.
* Recognition of themselves, enabling higher self-esteem.

Research has shown that the development of these skills takes place in relationships. The stronger the relational competence is, the more likely it is the child can realise their full potential in life.

A HUMAN CAN NOT GIVE WHAT IT HAS NOT LEARNED - that is why this is a very important project for the individual child, our community and the development of the social responsibility we feel for each other.

Conference and final report

Our conference will be held in Copenhagen in 2020.
P
artners, politicians, stakeholders from all countries involved, as well as others, will attend this conference. It will be the go-to event for anybody who wants to help children in orphanages get a better future.

Our report will contain relevant and innovative opportunities for strengthening mutual relationships between all orphanages. The model known as the SRAS model will be incorporated and made available for use at all orphanages. The report will be available for all and published in many editions and languages to reach as many people as possible.

When I welcome you all in 2020 on the stage at Bella Center in Copenhagen, we will all have made profound and life-changing actions for +1,000,000 children in orphanages, and paved the way for the many that follow.

Let´s make this project's goal our highest priority.

Sponsors and donators

15 Euro is all it takes to help one orphanage child in the EU

We need your help!

This is an NGO, and all donations will be spent on the project, the final report and the conference. All sponsors will be mentioned in the final report and at the conference which will be held in Copenhagen in 2020.

Collaboration and Network

A strong platform to build on

We collaborate with strong partners in all of Europe, spanning different types and levels of reach.

We need many more powerful partners. If you wish to make a difference, gain insight into a model developed specifically for this project, and have contacts across European borders - it's YOU we need. It will be a great advantage if you speak English, Italian or French. Contact us and tell us why and how you will make a difference with us.

Let´s do this for the children of europe and show them that we care
